Legacy environments can't be handed over safely through documentation alone. OpsWerks combines discovery, shadowing, runbook development, access validation, and progressive responsibility transfer before assuming the agreed operational scope.

01Define the operating scope. Systems, services, responsibilities, service levels, access needs, decision rights, and success measures.
02Discover the environment (typically weeks 1-2). Map architecture, dependencies, owners, failure modes, maintenance routines, security obligations, and known technical debt.
03Capture operating knowledge (typically weeks 3-4). Validate existing documentation, create missing runbooks, observe recurring work, and document escalation and recovery procedures.
